REFORM Project Newsletter – December 2024, As the year draws to a close, we are excited to share updates on the progress of the REFORM project and outline the important steps ahead.

Survey Data Collection Complete

We are thrilled to announce that data collection is now complete across all target groups—players, parents, coaches, and referees—in the participating countries.

This comprehensive dataset marks a significant milestone for the project. The collected data will form the basis for identifying trends, gaps, and actionable insights, ultimately guiding the development of concussion awareness courses and tools for our target audiences.

Data Analysis Begins

With the surveys complete, we are now moving into the data analysis phase. The focus of the analysis includes:

  • Assessing concussion awareness and knowledge among stakeholders.
  • Identifying differences in responses between countries and stakeholder groups.
  • Highlighting areas for intervention to shape educational materials and training courses.

Initial findings will be summarized in a scientific paper currently being drafted. This work will provide a foundation for evidence-based educational strategies and course development in line with the project’s goals.

Focus Groups Scheduled for December–January

To complement the survey data, focus groups are planned across participating countries:

  • Türkiye: Sessions will begin next week, engaging stakeholders from various groups.
  • Germany: A focus group with medical staff is scheduled for two weeks from now, with additional sessions being explored before Christmas.
  • Norway: At least one focus group is planned before the holidays, with exact dates being finalized.
  • Croatia: The status of focus groups remains under review, with updates expected soon.

These sessions will provide deeper qualitative insights to support our understanding of concussion awareness and management.

Papers in Progress

The project is advancing its scientific contributions with several papers under development:

  1. Study Protocol: Awaiting trial registration and submission.
  2. Survey Analysis: Drafting initial findings based on the comprehensive survey data.
  3. Pilot Study on Coaches in Germany: A focused study on concussion education strategies among coaches.

These publications will help disseminate the project’s findings and establish REFORM as a leader in concussion education and awareness.
